RT728 Hydrophobic Modified PU Rheological Agent

RT728 is a non-ionic hydrophobic modified polyurethane rheological agent designed for textured stone paint and high-gloss low-VOC systems. This PU thickener can improve medium and low shear viscosity while providing excellent flow, leveling, high gloss, and a hard film appearance. Other features include:

  • Outstanding brush retention, splash resistance, water resistance, and water separation resistance.
  • Low foaming and excellent film-forming properties, not causing fogging defects
  • Antimicrobial and anti-mold properties
  • Free from metal-organic tin

RT728

Method of Use

The recommended dosage of RT728 modified PU rheology agent is 0.05-0.5%, and should be appropriately adjusted according to the viscosity requirements of the product.

RT728 PU thickener should be added slowly under stirring conditions after dilution and thoroughly dispersed at high speed. Adding this additive before emulsion application is recommended to achieve high gloss performance.

RT728 can be used as a main thickener or as a co-thickener to obtain excellent fluidity.

RT728

Compatibility

RT728 modified PU rheology agent is engineered for diverse coating formulations, delivering exceptional performance across both interior and exterior wall coatings from matte to high-gloss finishes. It excels in styrene acrylic, pure acrylic, and vinyl-acrylic systems, particularly for high-gloss, high-hardness surface finishing.

Widely adopted in water-based industrial paints, it prevents fogging defects while ensuring rich film coverage. This makes it an ideal choice for spray application formulations.

RT728 is compatible with cellulose thickeners and alkali-swelling thickeners and can be freely combined with them.

RT728

Packaging and Storage

RT728 hydrophobic modified PU Rheological Agent is packed in 25kg or 50kg IBC plastic drums, with drums sealed. Custom packaging is also supported.

The shelf life is 12 months after the manufacturing date. Store this PU agent in a cool and dark area and keep the temperature range within 5-35°C.

FAQ About RT728 Modified PU Rheology Agent

Is RT728 Modified PU Rheology Agent Compatible with Wetting and Dispersing Agents?

Our RT728 modified PU rheology agent is generally compatible with most common wetting agents and dispersants when properly formulated.

Will Your PU Thickener RT728 Separate or Sediment After Long-Term Storage?

If you store our PU thickener RT728 within drums sealed in dark and cool areas within the temperature range, it remains stable and will not have significant phase separation or sedimentation.

Does Your PU Rheological Agent RT728 Cause Viscosity Drift at High Temperatures Above 40°C?

Our modified PU thickener RT728 is designed with stable rheological performance. It has minimal viscosity drift under normal high-temperature processing conditions. Please try to store it below 35°C.

Does PU Agent RT728 Affect Storage Viscosity Recovery or Re-Thickening?

No, our PU thickening agent RT728 does not negatively impact viscosity build-up or recovery, and the system generally maintains good re-thickening performance after storage.

What’s the Difference Between Your PU Thickener RT728 and RT7105A?

RT728 and RT7105A are both Hydrophobic Modified Polyurethane Rheological Agents. While RT728 is designed for low-to-medium shear viscosity build-up, offering strong brush retention and excellent performance in textured and architectural coatings.

However, RT7105A provides higher solid content and stronger medium shear thickening. It is more suitable for high-build industrial systems and high-gloss topcoats with greater formulation efficiency.
