Beyond Basic Defoaming: Solving Your Real Probelms
For adhesive formulators, the problem isn’t just foam, but the side effects of traditional defoamers. We offer a “Bond-Friendly” solution that addresses the root causes of failure.
| Dimension | Traditional Limitations | Our Advanced Solution |
| Bond Strength | Interfacial Migration: Additives migrate to the surface, reducing peel and shear strength. | Bond-Friendly: Remains stable within the matrix with zero interference to interfacial wetting. |
| Surface Integrity | Compatibility Risks: Triggers surface tension gaps, leading to fish-eyes and craters. | Molecular Dispersion: 100% compatible for defect-free films, even in sensitive PSA systems. |
| Longevity | Shear Decay: Emulsions break or lose potency under continuous pumping and recycling. | High-Shear Stability: Maintains structural integrity and active suppression throughout the run. |
| Micro-foam Control | Surface-Only Action: Large bubbles collapse, but deep micro-foam remains in the glue line. | Deep Deaeration: Forces micro-bubbles to the surface for a dense, high-performance bond. |
Grades of Defoamer for Adhesive
Celotech Ruico has developed different grades of defoaming and antifoaming agents for adhesive application, and we can guide you in selecting the most appropriate one.
Suitable for general water-based adhesives and water-based sols, offering stable long-term foam control under different pH and temperature conditions.
Best choice for waterborne 2K waterproof adhesive systems, with excellent compatibility and a low addition level, avoiding oil-spot defects.
Designed for aqueous systems and water-based sols requiring balanced control of both microfoam and surface foam during production and application.
VOC-free emulsion defoamer for water-based adhesives, featuring rapid foam knockdown and strong performance in acidic or alkaline systems.
Pre-emulsified defoamer is especially suitable for emulsion polymerization and adhesive formulations needing a balance of defoaming efficiency and compatibility.
Optimized for emulsion adhesives, providing durable foam control with strong compatibility, especially suitable for high-performance adhesive processing.
Different Types of Defoaming Agents for Water-Based Adhesive
The above defoamer grades belong to mineral oil-based and non-silicone-based defoaming agents.
- Mineral oil-based defoaming agents are good for emulsion adhesives. This type of defoamer can control foam stably during high-speed production processes.
- Non-silicone-based defoaming agents can reduce the risk of surface defects. They can provide stable performance during mixing, storage, and application.

Application Cases
The following cases demonstrate how our defoamer agent solutions improve foam control efficiency, production stability, and final application quality across different water-based systems.

A manufacturer of acrylic emulsion-based waterborne adhesives for packaging and lamination applications faced foam problems when operating under high-speed mixing and large-scale continuous production conditions. With the defoamer for adhesive RT860SA, we helped them improve efficiency and shorten the deaeration time by about 50%.
- Foam height during high-speed dispersion was reduced from 15–20% tank volume to below 5%, ensuring stable batch-to-batch production
- Internal microfoam in adhesive film was significantly reduced, improving bonding uniformity and lowering defect rate by ~60%
- Surface defects such as foam-related voids were minimized, reducing the rejection rate from around 10% to below 3%, enhancing final application quality

A formulation company working with water-based sol systems used in functional coatings and adhesive-related composite formulations, requiring high stability and consistent dispersion performance during processing. They tried our defoamer for adhesive RT8211 and achieved satisfactory results:
- Foam generation during the dispersion and blending stages was effectively suppressed
- System compatibility with sol-based formulations was maintained without phase instability
- Microbubble-related defects in the final application were significantly reduced
- Process stability under different shear conditions was improved, supporting consistent production quality

Full-Cycle Foam Control From Synthesis to End Use
While many competitors focus only on post-production foam, our product line covers every critical stage of the adhesive lifecycle, ensuring stability from the reactor to the coating line.
- Polymerization stage: RT8421 defoamer for adhesive works directly during emulsion polymerization. It suppresses primary foam formed from monomer emulsification, helping build a more stable latex from the start.
- Formulation stage: Defoamer agents like RT8211A and RT8512 are 100% active mineral oil defoamers. They are cost-efficient choices for large-scale adhesive production, with a good balance of defoaming power and compatibility.
- Application stage: RT860SA is designed for adhesive coating and lamination processes such as curtain coating. It controls micro-bubbles during application, preventing coating disruption, voids, and bonding weak points, ensuring consistent adhesive performance on the final substrate.

Robust Foam Stability in Demanding Adhesive Systems
Adhesive formulations often contain high levels of tackifying resins, emulsifiers, and various polar additives. In such systems, many conventional defoamers easily become “deactivated” or lose efficiency due to surfactant overload.
High surfactant tolerance: RT8211A defoamer for adhesive shows strong resistance to interference. Even in adhesive systems with very high surfactant content, it maintains stable physical activity and is not easily “absorbed” or inactivated by the formulation.
Wide pH and temperature window: Defoamers for adhesives such as RT8512 and RT8580C perform consistently across different conditions. Acidic PVAc-based adhesives or more alkaline specialty systems—performance remains stable. Temperature changes have minimal impact on defoaming efficiency, ensuring reliable behavior in different global production environments.
