RT8211A Defoamer

RT8211A is a type of mineral oil-based defoamer containing silica. It was developed for foam control in waterborne printing inks and coatings where surface appearance and formulation compatibility are important. It can reduce foam generated during dispersion, mixing, and application without compromising performance.

This defoamer agent is particularly suitable for formulations where persistent foam or entrained air can affect handling, uniformity or final appearance. In different temperature and pH conditions, RT8211A is also stable on control foam consistently during processing and application.

Foam Control Through the Coating Process

Foam can be generated at different stages, from pigment or filler preparation to final mixing and packaging. Shear, surfactants, and formulation viscosity changes during processing will also cause different foam types and amounts. RT8211A can be used at different stages of the formulation process to control or suppress foam. It can help you achieve a persistent defoaming effect throughout the whole process.

Applications of Defoamer RT8211A

  • RT8211A Defoamer for water based ink

RT8211A defoamer can help you solve foam issues where air entrapped during mixing or processing interferes with smooth ink handling and application.

  • water-based coatings

Helps manage foam for a more uniform coating surface during formulation and application of water-based industrial, building and wood coating systems.

  • RT8211A Defoamer for waterbased sols

RT8211A defoaming agent can be used for sensitive systems, applicable to aqueous sol systems requiring effective foam control during processing.

Defoamer Addition Strategy

  • The recommended dosage is 0.1–0.5% of the total formulation.
  • Add it during both the preparation and final mixing stages at multiple foam-generation points. A practical starting point is to divide the total dosage between these stages. Then you can adjust according to the actual foam level and formulation response.

FAQ About RT8211A Defoamer

How Does It Compare with Silicone Defoamers in Dynamic Defoaming?

Silicone defoamers has stronger and faster foam effect in highly aerated systems. While RT8211A has an effective dynamic foam control, balanced with better compatibility and a lower risk of surface defects.

Will RT8211A Cause Haze in Clear Coatings?

Normally, it will not cause Haze with correct and reasonable usage. Our recommended addition is 0.1-0.5% of the total formula quantity. If for high-transparency coating systems, please test in your formulation and optimize the dosage to avoid any potential clarity reduction.

Is It Suitable for Airless Spray Application?

Yes, it is. RT8211A can control both microfoam and surface foam caused during airless spraying.

Can RT8211A Be Used in Formulations Containing RT9691?

Yes, it can be screened in water-based systems containing RT9691. A lab trial is recommended to confirm compatibility and dosage.

Does RT8211A Need Pre-Dilution Before Use?

Usually no. Add it slowly under moderate stirring to improve distribution and avoid introducing extra foam.

Can RT8211A Be Added During Both Grind And Let-Down Stages?

Yes. Many users split the dosage between grind and let-down to control foam early andne-tune final appearance.

How Should I Evaluate Rt8211A Against My Current Defoamer?

Compare foam knockdown, foam persistence, crater risk, compatibility, and storage stability under the same test conditions.
